Fats was not the most famous black R&R figure of the 50's, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Little Richard and Nat King Cole can fight over that title, but Fats actually had the most hit's starting in 1949.

Later drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, developed a drug habit and quit the music business.
